Research Your Accommodation | Safety Tips For Women Travelling

Research Your Accommodation and Location Beforehand

Australia is a backpacker ‘s paradise and one of the safest countries to travel to. You can rest easy knowing that you probably won’t get into any trouble here. But just like any other travel destination, it helps to do your research and be prepared – if nothing else, it’ll give you peace of mind. I always feel more confident travelling places alone if I’ve got a good sense of exactly what I’m getting myself into.

Researching your accommodation beforehand is imperative to staying safe and having a good time while travelling Australia. Many hostels, farms, and accommodation in less populated areas don’t accurately represent themselves online and sometimes it can be hard to know what a place is really like before you arrive. I’ve fortunately escaped any horror stories myself, but I’ve heard from several people who arrived to terrible or unsafe conditions

Before heading to any destination I check out the accommodation on HostelWorld or post in local Facebook groups to see if anyone has stayed there before. There are a lot of Facebook groups for backpackers which are a great resource for anyone searching for accommodation, transportation, or other information!

I always familiarise myself with towns I’m travelling to beforehand and make sure that I know where to go if something happens, how the locals dress and act, and whether I can be comfortable wandering around alone at night. It’s always best to act like you know what you’re doing, and try to blend in as well as possible.

As safe as Australia is, it’s always best to be prepared. Now go do your research and get out there to make the most of your time in this beautiful country!
