welcome to travel careers
Social Media Coordinator
JOIN OUR TEAM IN MELBOURNE!
As we grow and work towards our goal of being the Number 1 go to company that young people travel Australia with, we are looking for a Social Media Coordinator to join our team in our Melbourne office.
This is a part time role working 3 days per week (22.8 hours) in our Melbourne office on a 3 month contract with possibility to extend if successful and the demand is there.
But first, a little bit about us…
- We are a full service travel company that has big ambitions.
- We run award winning tours in Melbourne, Sydney and the East Coast of Australia for international travellers.
- We have had over 2,500 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Google Reviews
- We have had travellers from 42 different countries.
- Won the Best Youth Tour Operator in the World
- We live and breathe travelling and it is our vision to create a world where everyone is encouraged to travel.
We know that the hardest part about travelling is always the start, so we want to make sure each traveller has the best possible experience with us.
Our Joint Mission
Make thousands of people feel like Australia is calling their name.
We’re not looking for someone to manage a content calendar. We’re looking for someone to help build a travel brand that people genuinely love – one that makes them stop scrolling, start dreaming, and book a trip.
You’ll own Instagram and TikTok for Welcome to Travel. Your job is to capture the feeling of travel – the freedom, the people, the places, the moments – and turn it into content that builds a community, moves people to act and trust that Welcome to Travel are the company to travel with.
Core Responsibilities
Tell the Welcome to Travel Story
You’re responsible for constantly spotting stories, moments, and content opportunities – then turning them into content that makes people feel something.
This might include:
- Traveller stories that people can relate to
- Tour experiences and destinations
- Behind-the-scenes office content that shows we’re real people too
- The moments that make Australia worth coming for
- UGC from our community before, during and after travel
If it makes someone want to pack a bag, we want our community to see it!
Push the Brand Outside Its Comfort Zone
A big part of this role is accountability. You’re not here to wait for permission, you have the opportunity to have creative freedom.
We want someone to ask questions AND help answer them.
If you have an idea. Try it.
If you spot a trend worth jumping on. Make it
If you think something can be improved. Share it.
You’ll naturally push Welcome to Travel to create more, experiment more, and have a bigger online voice than ever before.
Own Execution
You’ll be expected to:
- Film and shoot content independently and with the marketing team where needed
- Edit Reels, TikToks, Stories, and paid social creatives
- Write hooks that stop the scroll
- Write captions that build connection
- Plan and publish content consistently
- Repurpose content from our extensive media catalogue (we have a huge library of travel footage, photography, and UGC ready to repurposed)
- Analyse performance and iterate quickly without being asked
Execution is everything here. But we don’t want someone who just takes orders, we want someone who brings ideas, spots opportunities, and has the initiative to act on them.
Build the Community
You’re not just posting – you’re building a space people want to be part of.
- Monitor and respond to comments and DMs across Instagram and TikTok
- Proactively engage with the WtT community
- Source, curate, and repurpose UGC from travellers sharing their experiences
Keep the Creative Engine Running
Alongside organic content, you’ll help ensure there’s a constant pipeline of creative assets:
- Create paid social creatives (static and video) for Instagram and TikTok – creation only, not ads management
- Write and test multiple hooks and angles on the same concept
- Build a library of evergreen content WtT can draw on across campaigns
- Constantly improve creative through testing, learning, and iteration
Who We're Looking For
- You’re obsessed with Australia obvs!!
- You love creating travel content, love social media, and love understanding what makes people stop scrolling
- You move fast and don’t wait to be told what to do
- You’re comfortable filming, directing, and appearing on camera
- You’re a natural storyteller and scriptwriter – you can take a single travel moment and make it mean something
- You can write a hook, build a narrative, and land a point in every piece of content
- You’re confident editing short-form video at speed (CapCut, Premiere, or similar)
- You understand why content performs or doesn’t – and you use that to get better, not defensive
- You have a genuine test-and-learn mindset – you’re not precious about your work, you’re curious about what works
- You’re resilient – when something doesn’t land, you’re already thinking about what to try next, without being asked
- You want to help build a travel brand people love, not just manage a posting schedule
- Experience in social media or content creation is great to have, but we won’t rule anyone out. If you’ve got the instincts, the drive, and the creativity – we want to hear from you.
What we’re offering
💪 A driven and supportive team – We’re a small but mighty team all looking out for one another to ensure the travellers have the best possible experience.
📅 Flexible part-time structure with room to grow into a full-time role if successful
✨ An opportunity to genuinely shape a brand’s social presence, not just maintain it
🌏 Travel benefits – working in Australia tourism has its advantages. As part of the WtT team, you’ll have access to travel perks that put you closer to the experiences you’re helping to showcase.
So if you’re passionate about travel, like the sound of working as part of a like minded and progressive team and want to play a positive part in a traveller’s journey – we’d love to hear from you!
