The 30 day East Coast tour was amazing!
From the first day meeting our amazing guides in both Sydney and Byron, who made sure we had the best time possible at the start of our trip, to the incredible friends I made in my group. – everything was so organised from welcome to travel too, from me booking the trip, and the team answering lots of my questions, to getting all my activities booked for me and making the trip completely stress free.

I planned my East Coast Tour together with Welcome to Travel
I planned my East Coast Tour together with Welcome to Travel and also spent the first week in Sydney with them. I had a wonderful time and the team is really great and always by your side to help. I was very satisfied with the planning and everything was explained in detail and made understandable. They really help you make the tour easy, since everything is booked in advance. Everything went as promised, I am very grateful for this experience and can recommend it to everyone!

Sydney
Day 1
Today is the start of the best 30 days of your life!
We’ll start with a meet and greet session so we can get to know one another. These will be your travel family for the next 30 days so we’ll make sure to hit it off straight away. We’ll also go over your itinerary for your East Coast adventure, answering anything and everything so that you feel as relaxed and excited as possible. After that we’ll head for a cool secret inclusion followed by a Welcome Dinner, our first meal as a travel fam! That evening be getting the overnight bus to our next stop, beautiful Byron Bay

Byron Bay
Days 2-4
With its beautiful beaches, epic surf, great food and good vibes, every traveller has Byron Bay on their bucket list. Get grounded with a tour of ‘the Bay’ with your tour guide before having a group meal to celebrate your first night in town.
The next two days are all about you, that’s the beauty of our style of trip. Some of your group may want to surf or just chill on the beach. Everyone’s different but whatever you want to do, our tour guide will be able to help with. Your guide will also run through everything you need to know for the rest of your trip and be on hand for any questions you have.
We’ll spend your second evening on a stunning river kayak tour finishing at the pub. The final evening in Byron Bay will be a team night out, what a great first few days!
Whilst in Byron Bay we’ll be staying at the incredible Surf House, which is 100m from the beach AND has a rooftop bar.

Surfers Paradise
Days 5-6
From Byron Bay, you’ll be heading up the Coast as a group without your tour guide, but worry not, we’ll have covered everything you need to know before you get on the bus, you’ll also have our app to follow your itinerary and we’re contacted when you need us too.
Just because your Welcome to Travel Guide is waving goodbye doesn’t mean the end of your guided experiences. Instead we pass over to the local experts up the Coast, the first in Surfers.
You’ll be taken on a guided walk around Burleigh Heads coastline with an Aboriginal guide who will be telling you all about the rich history of the land and their people… which is mind blowing.
Spend the rest of your time in Surfers Paradise chilling on the beach, exploring the town or even hitting one of the theme parks or water parks. Then spend your evening enjoying the famous night-life.

Brisbane
Days 7-9
Brisbane, the capital of Queensland is a cool metropolitan city, with so many beautiful national parks surrounding it. It’s at this time where people either need to charge up their social batteries or go on an adventure. That’s the best part about it being semi guided, you can choose depending on how you feel.
Moreton Island is one of our most popular add-ons where you can be sandboarding down sand dunes, kayaking around shipwrecks and snorkelling with the local marine life. Then spend the day at o Australia Zoo. Get up close with kangaroos and maybe even Robert Irwin?
Back in the city, make sure to head to Southbank, there’s a free lagoon (swimming pool) by the river’s edge. For getting around the city, the ferry system is the way to go and offers the best views.

Noosa
Days 10-12
Noosa is a popular holiday destination for travellers, but also Aussies. To be honest, Noosa is as perfect as life gets.
Like Byron Bay, it has beaches to die for and a great food scene, but it also has a National Park that’s just 500m from town. This is where you’ll find the famous Fairy Pools. You saw on them insta, and now it’s your turn to swim in the,
We have the best advice on how to explore the National Park and the rest of Noosa, as well as where the best sunset spots are all in our handy app.
We’re committed to our best hostels policy and here we’ll stay in Bounce, our most-requested hostel and for good reason, you could easily spend all day not leaving the hostel grounds. You;ll be staying just minutes from the turquoise river, perfect for a swim. Not only is Noosa itself stunning, it’s not far away from one of the world’s two Everglades National Parks.

The Everglades
Days 13-14
After Noosa, we’ve organised for you to stay lakeside at Habitat Noosa. Here you’ll be staying together in cabins / safari tents that are surrounded by kangaroos every evening.
You can grab a kayak or paddleboard and hit the lake or chill out on land with a beer at the onsite brewery. On your second day at Habitat you’ll be lucky enough to experience the Everglades National Park, firstly on a boat cruise, and then secondly by canoe. Both are on the spectacular River of Mirrors. Don’t worry, it’s a short distance to canoe and they supply everything you need!

K'gari
Days 15-20
K’gari (meaning paradise) is the traditional name for a place you may know as Fraser Island.
This is the world’s largest sand island and you’ll experience island-living over 3 days.
Before and after your time on K’gari, you’ll stay at Rainbow Beach, a short ferry ride away from the island. You’ll spend 3 days on the island, camping for two nights with everything provided for you.
You’ll be exploring the island by 4×4, stopping off to swim in freshwater lakes, drift down lazy rivers, spot shipwrecks and so much more.
You will also get the chance to drive!* And there’s no cooler feeling than driving down the beach in a car filled with your friends.
*Must be 21+ and hold a valid drivers license.

Whitsundays
Days 21-23
We want you to experience the best things on the East Coast, and the Whitsundays is one of them. What’s better than experiencing the Whitsundays once? Experiencing it twice!
We’re obviously going to ensure you see the Whitsundays by boat, on a fantastic day trip that includes snorkelling pristine waters and visiting Whitehaven Beach.
Before that though, we’re going to take you on a truly once in a lifetime experience, a 60 minute, scenic flight over Heart Reef. Yes, that’s included

Magnetic Island
Days 24-26
You may not have heard of Magnetic Island but it is a true Welcome to Travel favourite, beautiful beaches, a chilled back lifestyle and heaps of wildlife. After so many activities this is a great place to relax and recharge before your final stop, Cairns.
There’s no better place to chill than ‘Maggie’. It’s also home to so many wild koalas and wallabies that if you haven’t spotted one in the wild yet, you will do here. While on Magnetic Island you’ll be able to do the famous Forts Walk, hire kayaks, snorkels or wait for it… Barbie Cars. All of which we’ll be able to help you with.

Cairns
Day 27-30
And just like that, you’ve travelled nearly 3000km and you are now a true travel family.
To celebrate this, you’re going to spend an incredible day out on the Great Barrier Reef, where you’ll snorkel with Nemo. If you want, you’ll also get the opportunity to scuba dive too! Following that, you’ll clink our glasses and say cheers to the best month of our lives at your final farewell meal.
With so many things to do, Cairns is THE place for backpackers. From white water rafting, to rainforest trips, bungy jumps, Skydives and more we have heaps of add-on activities to tempt you with either on tour or after.
Day 30 is the official end of the tour and you’ll be able to leave at any point during this day for onward travel, but if you can hang around an extra few days we’d highly recommend it!

What's Next?
Day 30+
Cairns is packed with incredible activities and we wish we could fit them all into 30 days but we simply couldn’t. So if you have the time we highly recommend staying around Cairns for another few days to tick off a few more must-see spots. This includes crocodile-spotting in the world’s oldest rainforest, snorkelling from Fitzroy Island or even getting your diving qualification on the Great Barrier Reef.
If you’re keen to travel more of Australia, we’re here to help you plan every adventure, or if you simply need a few hostel nights to plan your next move that’s what we’re here for too. Simply get in touch at any point during or after your trip for ongoing support for your time in Australia.
Heading home? We hope you’ve had the best experience in Australia! You’ll head home with memories to last a lifetime, new friendships that span the globe and a good tan too.

Interactive Map
Click any pin on the map to explore each stop along the East Coast – included activities, top locations, and optional add-ons to customise your adventure.
Sydney
New South Wales
Australia’s most iconic city needs no introduction.
Head down to Circular Quay to tick off the Opera House and Harbour Bridge before your East Coast tour starts. Soak in the atmosphere by grabbing a drink in the Opera House Bar or chilling in the nearby Botanical Gardens.
Looking for a beach as soon as you arrive in Australia? Bondi is famous for a reason, but our top tip is to also walk the coastal path along to Coogee stopping off at the smaller beaches as you go.
Back in the CBD, check out the Town Hall, Queen Victoria Buildings and Darling Harbour if you have time.
Byron Bay
New South Wales
This is the Australian surf town you’ve been dreaming of. The sweeping main beach is the main attraction and for good reason, it is stunning. But you’ll find so much more than surfers in the water, the bay is also famous for its dolphins so keep your eyes peeled. Then on the horizon, sit the lighthouse, marking the most easterly point of mainland Australia.
Back in town, you have cool cafes, quirky shops and plenty of bars to keep you entertained. And don’t be surprised if the locals are walking around barefoot, this is surfer land.
Surfers Paradise
Queensland
With its striking skyline of skyscrapers along the beach, Surfers Paradise feels a world away from Byron Bay’s hippie vibes. Unlike the name suggests this is not the place to go surfing. Instead it’s the place to party.
With a great nightlife scene, you can easily spend your nights out out and your days recovering on the beach. If you’re after a little more adrenaline, this is also where you’ll find Australia’s best theme parks and water parks.
Brisbane
Queensland
The capital of Queensland and the last big city of the East Coast, Brisbane offers everything from great nightlife to nature-filled day trips, shops and markets to inner-city lagoons. The river forms the heart of the city, with handy ferries to get around.
For the best view over the city, head to Mt Coot-tha for sunset. For a chilled-out afternoon, chill at Southbank Parklands. For nature-lovers, Australia Zoo is a train ride away. While adrenaline junkies should take a day trip to Moreton Island.
Noosa
Queensland
Once you’ve visited Noosa, you’ll want to live in Noosa. This spot has it all, incredible beaches, gorgeous national park. The coolest shops and bars around. Oh and it’s home to the best hostel on the East Coast too.
You have to check out Noosa National Park, a short 10 min walk from the main beach. Take the coastal path to the Fairy Pools for a dip then keep walking around to Hell’s Gate for a wicked view.
Rainbow Beach
Queensland
This small beachside town is the gateway to K’gari, but it’s not one to overlook. This is quaintly small town Australia without going into the outback.
Head over to the iconic rainbow steps for a photo and an afternoon sunbathing on the beach. The one spot you can’t miss is Carlo Sandblow at sunset. The view is spectacular anytime of day but add in the sunset colours and it’s simply magical.
K'gari
Queensland
K’gari translates to paradise and there’s no better introduction to this island. As the largest sand island in the world the beaches are absolutely spectacular. But it’s the freshwater lakes dotted across the island that you’ll also want to explore. Boorangoora (Lake Mckenzie) has perfect blue water, while Lake Wabby is surprisingly green. Or take a dip in the Champagne Pools.
Being a sand island, the only way to get around is with a 4×4. You’ll be driving along the beach, stopping off at the lakes for a swim and finishing the day with a campfire under the stars.
Airlie Beach
Queensland
With the Whitsunday Islands visible across the horizon from Airlie Beach, this spot has possibly one of the best views of the coast. While you’ll definitely be heading out to the islands, there’s still plenty to do in Airlie Beach.
Stroll around the many marinas (and daydream about owning a yacht), take a dip in the lagoon or just stretch out on the beach. There’s plenty of shops, cafes and great bars here too. And a market pops up every Saturday too.
Magnetic Island
Queensland
Is this the East Coast’s best kept secret? We think so.
This is island living as you imagined it, with perfect beaches and a surprising amount of trees, this island has it all.
Magnetic Island is home to the densest population of wild koalas in Australia, so you have a high change of spying these aussie creatures in the wild.
Cairns
Queensland
The end of the East Coast, but not the end of your adventure. Here the city acts as a gateway to explore the best of North Tropical Queensland.
Back in the city, there’s great nightlife to be found, heaps of cafes, restaurants and bars and ample shopping options too for any last min souvenirs.
Lighthouse
Byron Bay | Included
Perched on Australia’s most easterly point, the Cape Byron Lighthouse is one of the most iconic landmarks on the East Coast — and the views from up here are absolutely stunning. The walk up through Byron Bay’s headland reserve is worth it on its own, with humpback whales regularly spotted offshore between June and November, and dolphins a near-constant presence in the waters below. Watching the sunrise from the lighthouse is a Byron Bay rite of passage, and standing at the easternmost tip of an entire continent is a feeling that’s hard to put into words. Start early, bring a coffee.
River Kayak
Byron Bay | Included
There’s no better way to end a day in Byron Bay than out on the water as the sun goes down. Your sunset kayak takes you along Byron’s stunning coastline, paddling past the iconic headland as the sky turns shades of orange, pink and gold. Keep your eyes peeled too — dolphins are a near-constant presence in these waters and often swim alongside kayakers, which makes for an utterly surreal experience. It’s a peaceful contrast to some of the bigger thrills elsewhere on the tour, and drifting back to shore in the fading light with your group is one of those simple, brilliant travel moments you don’t forget.
First Nations Tour
Surfers Paradise | Included
One of the most meaningful experiences on the entire tour, your First Nations cultural experience on K’gari offers a rare and deeply respectful insight into one of the world’s oldest living cultures. Learn about the island’s original custodians, the Butchulla people, who have called K’gari home for thousands of years. From traditional storytelling and connection to country, to understanding the spiritual significance of the land and waterways around you, this is a chance to listen, learn, and leave with a much richer understanding of Australia’s history and heritage. Welcome to Travel is proud to support and platform First Nations voices.
Everglades
Noosa | Included
The Noosa Everglades are one of only two everglades systems in the world, and exploring them by kayak or canoe is a genuinely unique experience. Paddle through narrow, mirror-still waterways flanked by ancient paperbark trees, with the silence broken only by birdsong and the occasional plop of a fish. The reflections on the water are extraordinary — on a calm day it’s almost impossible to tell which way is up. With a guide leading the way through this pristine ecosystem, it’s a side of Australia that most travellers never get to see, and one that’s guaranteed to stay with you.
Fairy Pools
Noosa | Included
Tucked within the stunning Noosa National Park, the Fairy Pools are a series of naturally formed rock pools perched above the coastline — and they’re as magical as the name suggests. Your time in Noosa is all about embracing that laid-back Sunshine Coast energy, and a walk through the national park to discover the pools is the ideal way to spend a morning. The trail itself is beautiful, winding through coastal heathland with stunning ocean views along the way. Whether you take a dip or just soak up the scenery, this one’s a proper hidden gem.
Kangaroos
Noosa | Included
Getting up close with kangaroos is one of those quintessentially Australian experiences, and Habitat Noosa is one of the best places on the East Coast to do it. This incredible wildlife sanctuary is home to kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, wombats and a whole host of native Australian wildlife, all in a beautifully natural setting. Hand-feed a kangaroo, walk among the mob, and grab a photo you’ll be showing people for years. After the wilder, more rugged wildlife encounters earlier on the tour, Habitat Noosa is a chance to get truly up-close-and-personal with Australia’s most iconic animals — and it never gets old.
4x4 Offroading
K'gari | Included
Ready for an adventure? You’ll be spending 3 days on K’gari, the world’s largest sand island! And the only way to explore this paradise is with a 4×4. You’ll be driving along the beaches, stopping off at freshwater lakes and lazy rivers for a swim before heading back to camp where a campfire and the best stars of your life await.
Whitsundays Boat
Airlie Beach | Included
It’s time to experience one of the East Coast’s most beautiful spots: The Whitsundays. Made up of 74 islands, but you’ll be heading to the best of the bunch. Jump on a speed boat straight out to Whitehaven Beach, voted the number one beach in Australia! You’ll be exploring this stunning island, snorkelling in the surrounding water and spending a day
Whitsundays Flight
Airlie Beach | Included
What’s better than seeing the Whitsundays once? Seeing it twice! You’ll also be taking to the skies to see the Whitsundays from above, but that’s not all, you’ll be flying over the Great Barrier Reef! Get your cameras ready to take a snap of the iconic heart reef. Is this the best 60 mins of the whole 30 days? We think so!
Koalas
Magnetic Island | Included
You’ve already ticked off seeing a kangaroo up close, now we’re going to try and make sure you see koalas too. Magnetic Island is home to the densest population of wild koalas aka more chance to see these cute guys in their natural habitat. You need to head to the Forts Walk for your best chance, keep quiet and keep your eyes peeled and you’ll be rewarded.
Island Life
Magnetic Island | Included
Welcome to Maggie. This is island-living you’ve been dreaming of. No not quite as rustic as your time on K’gari, here you can expect a social hostel, stunning walking trails, beautiful beaches and the laid-back attitude of island life. This might be the East Coast’s best kept secret and the perfect place to recharge before your final destination.
Snorkel
Cairns | Included
You can’t explore Australia without heading to The Great Barrier Reef. So we’ve saved the very best until last. You’ll spend the day exploring this natural wonder of the world, snorkelling above the technicolour coral and spotting tropical fish, turtles and reef sharks as you go! Want to get closer to the action? You’ll have the option to upgrade to an introductory scuba dive for a truly memorable experience.
Surf Lesson
Byron Bay | Few hours
Take part in the ultimate Australian past-time with a surf lesson. We’ll be heading out as a group to the best beginner spot in Byron Bay where the waves are kind and the beach is long. After a quick lesson on technique, dive into the water to catch your first wave.
Whale Watching
Gold Coast | Half day
Available winter months May – November
Every year whales migrate along Australia’s East Coast and the Gold Coast offers one of the best places to see these gigantic creatures. Head out on a boat tour to spot these incredible creatures up close, they’ll be swimming and hopefully breaching – so get your cameras ready you never know when they’ll pop up.
Australia Zoo
Brisbane | Full day
One of the most meaningful experiences on the entire tour, your First Nations cultural experience on K’gari offers a rare and deeply respectful insight into one of the world’s oldest living cultures.
Moreton Island
Brisbane | Full day
You, your new friends, shipwrecks, sand dunes and so much more! This is an adventure-packed day like no other. You’ll be sand dune boarding (thinking sledging face first!) then snorkelling and kayaking around shipwrecks, spotting heaps of fish as you go.
Dolphin Kayak
Rainbow Beach | Half day
This add-on activity honestly speaks for itself, you’ll be hopping in a kayak, paddling out to sea to spot dolphins! This is everything 9-year-old you dreamed of back when you wanted to be a marine biologist. Luckily, no qualifications are needed, just high energy and your best dolphin call.
Surf Lesson
Rainbow Beach | Half day
Okay so you might be thinking, I can do a surf lesson in Byron Bay, why would I do one here too? This is no normal surf lesson. Here you’ll be able to ride Australia’s longest wave which basically means so much more time to stand up – ideal for beginners. You’ll be a surf pro in no time here.
Jetski Safari
Airlie Beach | Few hours
Hit the waters around the Whitsunday Islands on a jet ski tour! This is a fun-filled few hours and a chance to see the islands with a whole new perspective. There’s no experience required, just a sense of adventure.
White Water Rafting
Cairns | Full day
This is one for the adrenaline junkies! You’ll spend the day rafting down the Tully River, these are grade 3 and 4 level rapids – so they’re fast! And you’ll be enjoying it all surrounded by tropical rainforest in the Tully Gorge National Park.
Skydive
Cairns | Full day
This has to be on your bucket list! There’s no greater feeling than the freefall on a skydive, the views are stunning and it’s surprisingly peaceful. You’ll have views over the tropical rainforest and far out to the Great Barrier Reef. But the best bit? Landing on the beach Mission Impossible style. You’ll never feel this cool again.
Koalas | Included
Cairns | Full day
You already have an epic day exploring The Great Barrier Reef included in your tour… but if you want to make it even cooler you can upgrade to an introductory scuba dive! This gives you the experience to try out scuba diving without committing to an expensive course straight away. And what a cool place to have scuba dived for the first time.
Cape Tribulation
Cairns | Full day
It’s time to head out of Cairns and into the world’s oldest rainforest. You’ll go croc spotting on a boat trip through the Daintree River, learn about the rainforest on a guided board walk and spend time on Cape Tribulations beautiful beach. This is fun-packed day of nature and adventure and a firm favourite day trip from Cairns.
Atherton Tableland Waterfalls
Cains | Full day
Spend the day chasing waterfalls through the incredible Athertone Tablelands. You’ll be swimming, sliding and jumping into the most beautiful waterfalls. We shouldn’t have favourites, but we do and it’s Josephine Falls where you slide down the waterfall as a naturally-formed water slide!
Cape Tribulation & Atherton Tableland
Cairns | Two days one night
What’s better than doing both the Cape Tribulation and Waterfalls day trips? Doing them together! You’ll do all the things included in each day trip alongside staying overnight in an Eco lodge on the edge of the rainforest AND a night canoe along the river, spotting wildlife as you go.
