Welcome to Sydney!

Welcome to Sydney! Tonight we’re getting straight into it. Meet your guide and your new travel family over a welcome dinner at one of Sydney’s best spots, then head up for rooftop drinks above the city skyline. This is how your Australian adventure begins.

Landing a few days before? No worries! Your airport pickup is included and can be arranged for any time on any day before the tour.

Need extra nights accommodation? You can book these at checkout.

Discover the Harbour City

Today we show you why Sydney is unlike anywhere else on earth. Your guided morning takes you through The Rocks – 200 years of history on cobblestone streets – past the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as the city reveals itself around you.

The afternoon will be spent learning about the world’s oldest continuous civilisation, with an Aboriginal Cultural Tour and by evening, you’ll be tucked into Spice Alley, Sydney’s best kept laneway dining secret.

Your Day, Your Way

Today is your opportunity to get out of the city and tick off an iconic slice of Australia right on Sydney’s doorstep. You and your group can add on a guided day trip to the Blue Mountains – towering cliffs, ancient rainforest and the iconic Three Sisters, just 90 minutes from the city and one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the country. Add it on at checkout when booking this tour.

Not doing the Blue Mountains? Sydney is still yours to explore. Your guide will set you up with a list of recommendations for places outside your itinerary to discover on your own terms, with or without your group.

And if you’re on a Working Holiday Visa, everything you need is in your FREE optional Welcome Pack.

If you want to go deeper on anything, a 1-on-1 with a member of our team is available whenever suits you – today, tomorrow or any time during your stay in Sydney.

Coogee to Bondi & Dudley Page

One of the world’s great coastal walks – six beaches, clifftop views and the Pacific stretching out as far as you can see. We start at Coogee and walk the iconic trail all the way to Bondi, finishing the day at Dudley Page Reserve to soak up the ocean views before heading to dinner. Honestly one of those days where you’ll stop mid-walk and just laugh at how good life is right now.

A trip to Bondi wouldn’t be complete without a stopover at Yo-Chi! Yes this is the best invention Australia has ever created. Yes we will be indulging till our hearts content. Who knew frozen yoghurt could steal our hearts like this!?

Ferry to Manly

We’re saving one of the best experiences for today. The ferry ride to Manly is one of those Sydney experiences that stops you in your tracks – the Opera House gliding past, the Harbour Bridge overhead, the city skyline stretching out behind you as the open water opens up ahead. Thirty minutes that feel like the best postcard you’ve ever been inside.

Once we arrive into Manly, our first stop HAS to be ButterBoy for what might be the best cookie you’ve ever had – trust us on this one. Then Manly is yours to explore. Walk the Manly Wormhole, discover the hidden gem that is Shelly Beach, pick up something you didn’t know you needed in Ghanda and finish the day with your toes in the sand.

Keep the Adventure Going

Your Welcome to Sydney tour might be over, but your Australian adventure is just getting started. Here’s how to keep it going:

Welcome to Melbourne | 5 Days

Sydney and Melbourne are two completely different cities and honestly, you need both. After your time in Sydney, jump on a flight or overnight bus down to Melbourne and experience Australia’s most vibrant cultural capital – street art, world-class coffee, rooftop bars and a city that does things entirely on its own terms. Two iconic cities, two completely different adventures, one trip you’ll never forget.

Welcome to Australia: Sydney to Cairns | 37 Days

Want the full picture? Upgrade your Welcome to Sydney into our 37-day Sydney to Cairns adventure and take on the entire East Coast with us. From Byron Bay to K’gari Island, Whitsundays to the Great Barrier Reef – this is Australia done properly. One booking, one group, the trip of a lifetime.

Only the best way to explore Sydney! You’ll explore the city’s best beaches, tick off all the must-see spots and discover hidden gems over 5 days. This is a fully-guided tour so you’ll be with a group of like-minded backpackers aka your new friends. 5 days not enough? Upgrade to a travel package and keep the adventure going up the East Coast.

Our tours are for 18 -39 year olds arriving in Australia. Whether you’re on a Working Holiday Visa, travelling as a tourist or just looking for the best possible introduction to Sydney this is the best way to start your adventure. About 80% of our travellers are solo, so this is the perfect tour for those who want to meet new people, make friends and explore a new place at the same time!

Our tours are built for solo travellers. In fact, around 80% of people on tour are travelling alone, so you’ll fit right in. So many of our travellers make friends for life on our Welcome tours!

Absolutely! Everyone who joins us on tour is just like you, keen to make friends and make memories. We see week after week friendships are made that last way beyond our tours. We’ve even had a wedding come from a couple meeting on a Welcome Tour!

Our tours cater for people aged 18–36 years old. The average age varies each week and that’s what we love about it. If we had to be more specific, most people tend to be in their twenties. But what we love the most is that age really is just a number when you’re travelling as you’re all experiencing new things at the same time.

You sure can! We create a WhatsApp group chat the week leading up to the tour so you can get to know each other before you even land. You can also join our Australia Travels Facebook group to connect with people on your tour, ask questions and get expert advice before your tour starts.

Yes. We keep the whole group together in the same dorms wherever possible, so you’ll be sharing with your new travel family from night one. If you’re travelling with a friend or partner, let us know when you book so we can request you stay together throughout the tour. If you’d prefer your own space, private room upgrades are also available.

We keep the whole group together in the same dorms so you and your partner will be together, just let us know you’re travelling together so we can include your request. If you’d like your own private room, upgrades are available at checkout for couples and solo travellers who want their own space.

You’ll spend five nights at Wake Up! Sydney Central – consistently voted one of Sydney’s best hostels. Located in Sydney’s CBD with everything on your doorstep, and our office practically next door.

Dorms are super social and that’s why we love them! Introduce yourself to your dorm mates and be polite and friendly throughout your stay and you’ll get the same in return. All dorms have lockers to keep your valuables safe, so remember to bring a small padlock with you. We aim to get everyone on Welcome to Sydney in the same dorm, but if you have any special requests such as an all-female dorm or a private room upgrade, just let us know.

Nerves are totally normal and, we’re telling you now, everyone in your group feels exactly the same way. By the end of the tour you’ll wonder how you only met a week ago and that’s what we love about group tours, friendships are formed faster than at home, and memories are made to last a lifetime. Still feeling a little nervous when you arrive? Chat to your guide or the team, and we’ll help you feel and ease (we’ve also all been in your shoes so know exactly how you feel). If you want to start connecting before you even arrive, join our Australia Travels Facebook group where future travellers ask questions, share plans and get advice from people who’ve done it before.

Absolutely! The tour is focused on all things Sydney, the beaches, the landmarks, the city and being with a group of new friends. The Working Holiday Visa support is completely optional and there for those who need it. So if you’re coming on a tourist, student or Working Holiday Visa, we’d love to show you around.

If you have any accessibility concerns, please do get in touch so we can chat through the tour in more detail, understand your needs and make any accessibility changes required for you.

As a city-based tour, there is a lot of walking involved on a mixture of terrain from city-centre streets to coastal paths.

The best 5 day introduction to Sydney! This is a fully guided tour with your accommodation included in the city’s best hostel, transport around the city and heaps of unique experiences. You’ll tick off the icons, the harbour, the beaches but also the hidden gems and best sunset spots. If you’re coming on a Working Holiday Visa you can add on our free Welcome Pack to get all your admin sorted.

You’ll walk the Coogee to Bondi coastal trail passing six beaches: Coogee, Gordons Bay, Clovelly, Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi. You’ll also visit Manly on the harbour ferry day.

One of Australia’s most iconic coastal walks – a 6km clifftop trail passing six beaches with the Pacific Ocean stretching out beside you the whole way. This is a firm local favourite, so we’ll do as the locals do and finish the day with a sunset picnic at Dudley Page Reserve.

It’s a 6km walk with some hills but nothing that requires any specific fitness level. We’ll be doing lots of stops along the way at beaches and sightseeing spots so there is always time to rest and relax before moving on.

A clifftop reserve above Dover Heights with sweeping views over the Pacific Ocean. One of Sydney’s best kept secrets and the perfect place to finish the Coogee to Bondi walk with a sunset picnic.

An outdoor laneway dining precinct filled with Asian street food vendors, fairy lights and a brilliant atmosphere. One of Sydney’s best kept secrets and an ideal way to end the city explore day.

Day 3 is yours. You can add on a guided Blue Mountains day trip to complete with your group or, if you’d rather stay in Sydney, your guide will set you up with recommendations for places outside your itinerary to explore on your own terms. And if you’re on a WHV, your free Welcome Pack has everything you need to get sorted at your own pace but you can also use this day to chat with our Welcome to Travel team about anything you need guidance on.

A full day trip to one of Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes, just 90 minutes from Sydney. Towering sandstone cliffs, ancient rainforest and the iconic Three Sisters – the perfect way to see more of New South Wales while you’re here. Add it on at checkout when booking your tour or add-on later.

Yes – the tour runs year-round with a flexible winter itinerary that moves with the weather. Sydney winters are mild so you’ll still be getting outdoors and making the most of the city.

That’s up to you and we’re here to help with that! You can combine with our East Coast tour with our 37-day Sydney to Cairns adventure and take on the entire East Coast. Or head down to Melbourne to tick off Australia’s other iconic city, or plan your dream trip from scratch with a Welcome to Travel team member.

Whichever options you choose, we’re here to support you before, during and after your tour.

Seamlessly. Our 37-day Sydney to Cairns or our 44-day Melbourne to Cairns package combines Welcome to Sydney with the 30-day East Coast tour in one booking. Same group, same energy – just a whole lot more of Australia.

The 37-day Sydney to Cairns package combines Welcome to Sydney with the 30-day East Coast tour. The 44-day Melbourne to Cairns package adds Welcome to Melbourne at the start – so you get the full East Coast all in one booking.

Of course! You can choose to plan your travels during a 1-to-1 meeting with our Community Team on the Wednesday of your tour. Or we can help you plan an adventure before you’ve even left home or any time after the tour. Just get in touch and we’ll make it happen.

Absolutely. Our tours are built around seeing the very best of Australia with a group of new mates. The Working Holiday Visa support is completely optional and there for those who need it. If you’re visiting Sydney as a tourist, student or just passing by, you’ll be very welcome.

A personal identity number created by the Australian Taxation Office. You’ll need it for every job you have in Australia so that you’re correctly taxed on your income. Your Welcome Pack walks you through exactly how to apply.

If you’re working in Australia, yes – employers will only pay into an Australian account. Your Welcome Pack will guide you through the setup process. You can also fast-track it by creating a Wise account before you arrive so you already have Australian dollars as soon as you land.

Medicare is Australia’s healthcare scheme. Only certain countries are eligible – currently it’s Belgium, Finland, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Check the Services Australia website for eligibility and enrolment details and we’ll point you in the right direction.

SIM card information is included in your Welcome Pack, so you’ll be able to set yourself up from Day One. If you’d prefer to get set up as soon as you land, we recommend organising an eSIM before you leave home so you’re connected from the moment you arrive.

Secure your spot with a $99 deposit. Full payment is only required 42 days before departure giving you plenty of time to save. If you book within 56 days of departure, full payment is required at the time of booking.

As soon as you know you’re coming. We offer free date changes up until 43 days before your tour (depending on availability) so there’s no risk in booking early. Our tours regularly fill up three months in advance, so if you have your eye on a date, take the leap, we’d hate for you to miss out.

Yes, we offer unlimited free date changes up to 43 days before departure, subject to availability. Please see our booking terms and conditions for full details.

Definitely, extra nights at the same hostel are available before the tour. Add them as an optional extra at checkout or we’ll email you four weeks before your departure to arrange it.

Absolutely, you can add extra nights at the same hostel for after your tour at check out, or you’ll also have the option to arrange these while on tour.

With accommodation, activities and several meals included, we’d suggest around $300AUD for the week covers extras comfortably. Lunch runs $10-18, dinner $13-25 and drinks $12-16 outside of included meals.

We strongly recommend everyone organising travel insurance before they leave their flight to Australia. Check out our travel insurance recommendations for the best option for you.

Most travel insurance options include emergency medical cover. We recommend looking at both travel and medical insurance options if you’re not covered by Medicare.

Pack as light as you can and your future self will thank you! Believe us, we’ve learned the hard way with a 23kg backpack. Every hostel has laundry so you’ll always be able to do a wash. Our advice is to pack for 10-14 days and wash and repeat. But we know you’ll have even more questions, so check out our ultimate packing guide for a comprehensive packing list.

This is our most-asked question and to be honest, we don’t have the answer. It’s essentially up to you and what you already have. A soft-shell bag is easiest as it fits under beds and on buses more easily. Choosing a backpack will be essential if you’re planning on travelling in Asia before or after your time Down Under. But a suitcase is becoming more and more popular for travelling the East Coast. Our biggest tip is to make sure you also bring a good sized day bag for days out and short overnight visits.

Yes. If you’re visiting as a tourist you’ll need a Visitor Visa. If you’re coming to work while on holiday you’ll need a Working Holiday Visa (417) or Work and Holiday Visa (462) depending on your country. Check the Australian Government website for the full list and application process.

Head over to the Australian Government website and search for your visa. Most visas are approved instantly but it’s advised to apply up to 3 months before you want to travel to Australia. Always check the official government site for specific enquiries.

If you’re coming on a Working Holiday visa, the Australian Government requires you to have $5,000 AUD in your bank account on arrival. This is a good savings target if you want to travel for a few weeks or set yourself up for working life in Australia. If you want an epic time exploring the East Coast, we’d recommend saving over $5,000. The more you save, the more bucket-list activities you can tick off.

Absolutely! You’ll get the best introduction to the city and leave with a new group of mates, your time in Australia sorted and a week of memories you’ll never forget. This tour is perfect for solo travellers to see the best of Sydney and have all the on-going support for your time in Australia.

A fully-guided 5 day tour of Sydney. You’ll get picked up from the airport, have 5 nights of accommodation in our favourite hostel and a fun-packed itinerary for the week. Plus our Welcome Pack includes all the support and admin set up to continue your Working Holiday in Australia.

But that’s just the logistics, it’s the people that make a trip! Your guide will be there to bring the vibes, answer all your questions and make sure you and your group have the best week possible. You’ll finish the week with memories to last a lifetime, a plan for the rest of your time in Australia and heaps of support for anything you need. Oh and new friends you’ve felt like you’ve known for years, not days.

First it takes away all the hassle of researching and booking things yourself. We’ve spent years perfecting the itinerary and making your time in Sydney the best it can be. You’ll tick off the landmarks and hidden gems, stay in the best hostels and get to explore with a group! We also find that the cost is very similar if you book with us or independently, but with none of the stress.

Plus our Welcome to Sydney tour includes added value you can’t find anywhere else with our Welcome Pack to get your Working Holiday admin sorted and support throughout your time in Australia.

Nope, we have no hidden cost, everything you see is included! There is the option to add-on a day trip to the Blue Mountains at an additional cost. For food and drink not included, we recommend around $150-200 spending money for your time in Sydney.

Oh yes! The price covers all your accommodation in the city centre, airport pick up, guided tours across the city, beach time, some meals and so much more. Plus, some great extra perks in our Welcome Pack to ensure you have everything organised for your Working Holiday.

Most tours show you the highlights and drop you back at your hotel. Welcome to Sydney is built around the people as much as the places. You arrive as a stranger and leave with a group of friends, a guide who knows the city better than anyone and a plan for the rest of your Australian adventure.

Yes! Once you’ve paid your deposit to secure your spot, please email our reservations team to set up a payment plan that works for you.
Please note payment plans need to be completed and final balances paid 42 days before your tour starts.
