Your Uluru Itinerary

Ancient Domes & a Red Centre Sunset

Passengers departing from Alice Springs will be picked up at 6am before taking the 4.5-hour drive towards Yulara for an early lunch.

Passengers departing from Yulara or Ayers Rock Airport will be picked up between 1.45 and 2pm. If you are departing from Yulara or Ayers Rock Airport, please have lunch prior to your pick up and be ready with walking shoes on and easy access to hat, sunscreen and water bottle.

After a short drive, arrive at Kata Tjuta (The Olga’s). Its 36 domes are of various sizes and provide quite a contrast to Uluru. You’ll get to know the landscape well on the Walpa Gorge Walk between the domes. As the evening unfolds, head to the sunset viewing area and enjoy a light snack as the sun slowly sets, casting various earthy tones across Uluru. The perfect end to a remarkable day awaits you back at camp as you enjoy a delicious spread of food with your group. If the weather permits, sit outside under the stars.

Additional Information

Sunrise, Rock Art & the Road to Kings Canyon

An early start this morning is rewarded with an Uluru sunrise. Your guide will take you to one of the significant cultural sights of Uluru, outlining Anangu rock art and passing on one of the site’s creation stories. Enjoy a self-guided, full base walk around Uluru. Once you’ve had lunch, visit the Cultural Centre, and view hand-crafted art by local First Nation Peoples of the Western and Central Deserts. Travel onto our exclusive campsite near the Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon), where the group will have dinner and enjoy the stars.

Additional Information

Canyon Walls & a Second Red Centre Sunset

The main attraction of Watarrka National Park is undoubtedly Kings Canyon – a huge gorge enclosed by sheer rock walls many meters high. Your guide will point these out on a trek that takes in the canyon’s most famous locations, such as the Lost City, the Garden of Eden, the Amphitheatre, and, of course, the North & South Walls of the canyon.

After lunch, we hit the road again and make the 3-hour journey back to Yulara, arriving at around 5pm, with the remainder the evening free to relax or enjoy optional activities (at additional cost), or if you’d like to experience the Uluru sunset from a different perspective (and free of charge), tonight is the opportunity to do it! After dinner, relax at your camp for a night under the stars.

Additional Information

One Last Outback Morning

After a short sleep-in, enjoy a hearty breakfast at our exclusive camp. Depending on your departure time, take our free 10-minute transfer directly to Yulara’s Desert Gardens Hotel, or Ayers Rock Airport. If you have plenty of spare time before your flight, you can leave your luggage at the Desert Gardens Hotel and spend some time at Ayers Rock Resort shopping at your leisure. There are regular free airport shuttles from the Desert Gardens Hotel to the Ayers Rock Airport.

Additional Information

Keep the Adventure Going

Few places leave a mark like the Red Centre, with its glowing rock, endless horizons and star-filled skies. If you have a few days spare, we’d recommend staying on to soak up a little more of the Outback.

Ready for your next Aussie adventure? Your trip doesn’t have to end here! Swap the red sand for rugged beaches and ancient gorges on the West Coast, chase waterfalls and crocodiles on a Top End expedition, discover the wild wilderness and epic wildlife of Tasmania or hop across the ditch to New Zealand for glaciers, glowworms and geysers. You can add these on during the check-out process or speak to one of our Travel Consultants to find out more.

Heading home? We hope you’ve had the best experience in the Red Centre! You’ll head home with memories to last a lifetime, new friendships that span the globe and plenty of red dust in your bag.

SWIPE TO SEE MORE

Officially for all ages, but specifically catered towards anyone aged 18-39 who wants to see Australia properly. Whether you’re on a Working Holiday Visa, travelling as a tourist or just looking for the adventure of a lifetime, this tour is built for people who want to explore more of Australia then just the East Coast.

Yes! Your guide will also be your driver for your time on tour. They’ll be there to bring the vibes, share their expert knowledge on the area and make sure you know what you’re doing. This is a fully guided group tour.

This tour runs a little bit differently and is run by our local trusted partner in the area. Group dynamics change for every departure, so while there’s a good chance you’ll be traveling alongside other Welcome to Travellers, it isn’t guaranteed. Not to worry though, we’ve done a strong vibe test, so if you’ve loved our tours, you’ll love this tour too!

Absolutely! This tour is designed for solo travellers so you’ll meet other backpackers wanting to explore more of Australia just like you. Your guide is there to help bring the group together and make sure everyone on the tour is having a great time!

We’ve partnered with our expert local partners to bring you the best group experience to explore further afield in Australia. The guys here are total experts, they know these places like the back of their hands, so you’ll be with the best people to explore this stunning part of Australia.

All your accommodations, heaps of amazing activities and some meals are included in the tour. Please check the itinerary above for more details.

Group trips work best when everyone chips in and helps along the way. Your guide will be in charge of all the important stuff, but when you’re cooking meals as a group, you’ll likely be asked to help with the cooking and washing up as you go. And other small tasks to help keep everything running smoothly – it’s a great way to bond with the group and make memories along the way.

These are active tours so a basic level of fitness will make it much more enjoyable! You don’t need to be an athlete but happy to walk/hike comfortably for 5-10km on a range of terrain and weather. Please check the itinerary above for more details of the tour and expected walking distances.

Please get in touch by emailing [email protected] to discuss any accessibility requirements, and we can chat through accessibility specifics for you and your tour choice and adapt as required where possible. We’d love to help you explore more of Australia.

Many of our travellers end up continuing their journey with us. Whether you’re ticking off your own personal bucket list or aren’t ready yet to say goodbye to your new friends, we can help you complete your Aussie route. Check out our secondary travel destinations Uluru, West Coast, Tasmania and Top End pages for more info. Fancy a cheeky discount? Then select these tours during the check-out process for a discounted rate.

Absolutely – and we can help you with this. Everyone’s journey is different, so we can plan around your timetable to see what destinations make most sense to add-on. If you plan to work in Melbourne for a bit, maybe hop over to Tasmania. On the way back home? Why not see the West Coast first? Travelling in Dry Season, check out Uluru and/or the Top End!

You have two options, the first is in Alice Springs and the second is at Ayers Rock Airport in Yulara. As it’s an early start from Alice Spring, we highly recommend arriving the day before and we can help with booking accommodation for you.

If you choose to arrive at Ayers Rock airport, you need to have arrived before 1.40pm on the first day of the tour – there are flights from Melbourne and Sydney that will ensure you arrive on time. You’ll meet your guide out the front of the airport at 2pm.
*Please note lunch is not provided on the first day and there isn’t anywhere to buy it at the airport so make sure you eat on the plane.

You’ll have the option to swag camp or stay in eco tents – find all the details above and pick your preferred option at check out.

After breakfast, we’ll be heading to the airport for 9am. If you’ve got a later flight or want to stay an extra night, you can explore the village of Yulara.

Absolutely! We’re happy to help get you some extra nights organised. Get in touch with the community team by emailing [email protected] and we’d be happy to help book extra nights before and after your tour.

We can! We cater for vegetarians, vegan and gluten free – if you have more specific dietary requirements please let us know.

Nope! These are included in your tour price, so there’ll be no hidden extras along the way.

Payments plans are on request and depend on a few factors including how soon your trip is. If you’d like to set up a payment plan to book your tour, please reach out at [email protected] to see what options are available.

You’ll need to organise your own transport to arrive on time for your tour as unfortunately flights are pretty much the only thing we can’t book! We always suggest checking budget airline Jetstar or Virgin Airlines for the cheapest flights.

As you’ll be travelling to some remote parts of Australia, phone coverage can be patchy – we recommend letting friends and family know of your adventure, and then send them all the photos at the end of your travels. Your guide will have a satellite phone for emergencies.

There’ll be limited power at the campsites, so we recommend bringing a power bank to keep your devices charged.

When in the desert, the days can be hot, like sweltering hot especially in summer, so come with cool options to wear and plenty of sunscreen. In winter, the nights can get chilly, so you’ll also want a hoodie / fleece for at night.

The most Australian form of camping! You’ll be sleeping around the campfire directly under the best stars of your life. A swag is basically a big outdoor sleeping bag with a built-in sleeping mat – you’ll still have a normal sleeping bag inside your swag for a cosy warm night in the outback.

This is glamping in the outback! You’ll stay in a permanently set up tent complete with twin beds, mattress and sleeping bag. These are shared with someone else in the group, but you’ll always be paired with someone of the same gender.

Yep! Nothing extra for you to bring to camp, you’ll be all set.

You’ll be exploring more remote parts of the country on this tour, and much more remote than the East Coast. Medical care can be limited, therefore if you have any medical conditions or specific medication that needs additional requirements (e.g. needs to be kept cool) please let us know.

Absolutely! This is your chance to tick off another Australian state with a great group of likeminded backpackers and a guide who’ll be with you the whole way. A well-planned itinerary, a great group, and genuinely good value – it doesn’t get much better than that.

With all your accommodation included, transport in a private mini-bus and an expert guide every step of the way, this tour is great value for money. When travelling to more remote parts of Australia a group tour always offers the best value.

Your accommodation, transport and most meals are already included so you may want some spending money for souvenirs and snacks and drinks along the way. You can see all the included meals above.
