Explore South Australia’s capital
Take in Adelaide’s beautiful beaches, epic coastline, bustling city centre, rolling hills and great food and drink. It’s a small city, but it packs a lot in.
Magnificent wildlife at Seal Bay
This picturesque beach is home to Australia’s third largest colony of sea lions, and you’ll be right there on the beach with these impressive creatures.
Koala conservation
Kangaroo Island is a sanctuary for native wildlife, following the devastating 2020 bushfires you’ll be helping regenerate their natural habitat.
Bucket-list item: dolphin swim 🐬
You’ll be sailing away from Adelaide on a catamaran to find the local dolphin population. But it doesn’t stop there. You’ll be getting in the water for a swim.
WHERE YOU'LL GO
You’ll start and end your trip in Adelaide, with time to explore the city centre and the outer beaches. On Kangaroo Island, you’ll be seeing it all! Starting in the east at Penneshaw, you’ll then be going south to Seal Bay, west to Admirals Arch and north to Stokes Bay, plus everything in between.
WHERE YOU'LL STAY
In Adelaide, you’ll be staying at the centrally-located YHA. On Kangaroo Island, you’ll be swag camping at the eco-campsite ‘Happiness’ right next to the stunning Antechamber Bay beach. For your swag camping, you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag with you.
Welcome to Kangaroo Island Itinerary
Welcome to South Australia
Day 1
You’ll begin your South Australia adventure in its capital, Adelaide. You’ll have some free time to explore the city before your meet and greet session. Here you’ll meet your Welcome to Travel guide, get to know the group and hear everything that’s going to be in store over the next 5 days. Spoiler alert, it’s going to be epic!
Then you’ll be heading into the city for your welcome meal.
Jump over to Kangaroo Island
Day 2
It’s a bright and early start today as you’ll be heading out to Kangaroo Island. Enjoy the scenic ferry ride over to Penneshaw before a short drive to your first spot on the island: Prospect Hill. Climb the 500 steps to the top to reach Kangaroo Island’s highest point and the very best vantage point for everywhere you’ll be going over the next few days.
You’ll spend the afternoon getting to see first-hand why Kangaroo Island is so well known for its produce. Stop by the world’s oldest bee sanctuary followed by a family-owned winery, grab a glass (or a bottle) and enjoy the stunning views over the ocean.
After such a busy first day, you’ll be ready to see camp. Explore the eco-lodge ‘Happiness’ and take a walk along the gorgeous Antechamber Bay before unrolling your swag and sleeping under the stars.
Nature galore and volunteering with koalas
Day 3
Get ready for nature, a lot of nature. After breakfast you’ll be visiting and volunteering at Hanson Bay Conservation Sanctuary, home to koalas, kangaroos, echidnas and more. Next you’ll head northwest to Flinders Chase National Park to spot seals at Admirals Arch and marvel at the Remarkable Rocks.
The wildlife doesn’t stop there, after lunch you’ll be visiting Seal Bay, which unlike the name suggests is home to sea lions! You’ll be on the beach with these incredible creatures watching them in their natural habitat.
After a busy day of wildlife spotting, it’s back to camp for the evening and to sleep under the stars.
Caves, coasts and the end of island life
Day 4
Your final day on the island starts with a hike and a chance to explore the town of Kingscote. Then it’s back to exploring the northwestern coast and its labyrinth of caves. You’ll have time to spend on one of Australia’s best beaches: Stokes Bay. And if the weather is in our favour, a snorkel in the surrounding rock pools.
Before too long it’ll be time to head back to camp one last time to pack up before catching the ferry back to Adelaide.
Fond farewells
Day 6
If you’ve booked a later flight, today is a good day to explore more of Adelaide, you could walk over to the Botanical Gardens, wander through the shopping arcades or take in one of the many museums.
