Questions About Travelling

Yes! Because Australia is a safe country and with so many incredible places to visit, it’s very popular with solo travellers. Our tours are perfect for solo travellers as they’re a great way to meet people and become comfortable with Australia.
Any time! Australia is so big that it is always warm somewhere. The official Summer is Dec-Feb but down South (Melbourne and Sydney) it is generally good weather from Oct-Mar. Although it gets cooler after that, the North of Australia is always warm. When it’s summer down South, the North has it’s wet season, meaning when it’s winter down South, it’s actually the dry season up North, and that’s why we say any time!
Yes you do! If you’re coming here just as a tourist to visit Australia, you’ll need a Visitor Visa. If you’re coming here to work while you’re on holiday, you’ll need either a Working Holiday Visa (417) or a Work and Holiday Visa (462), depending on which country you’re from. You can find more information and a list of the various visas here.
We recommend organising this as soon as possible. The application can be completed through your travel agent, or directly through the same Australian Government website as above. We always recommend checking Australian Government website for any specific enquiries.
This depends on trip length, your travel style (backpacker or flashpacker) and what you are wanting to experience here in Australia. According to the Australian Government, you need $5,000AUD in your bank account on arrival if you’re coming on a Working Holiday visa. This is a good savings target if you are wanting to either travel for a month or set yourself up for working and living in Australia after the Welcome To Travel week. However, everybody is different and to give yourself the best chance of experiencing as many things as possible in Australia, we would recommend just saving up as much as possible before you come travelling.

Questions About A Working Holiday in Australia

With our help, that’s how!

Both our Welcome tours (Melbourne and Sydney) and Mini Packs (Melbourne and Sydney) include extensive work help where you will receive exclusive tips, resources and guidance towards finding a job and farm work in Australia.

We will provide you with all of the basic information needed to get started, and give you access to our huge database of employers and contacts in sectors such as hospitality, retail, construction, sales and marketing and many more. This is all before having a 1-on-1 meeting with us, where we go over how we can specifically help you find work.

We also send out a weekly update email that highlights the most recent job and farm work opportunities we come across.

No! However if you are on a working holiday visa (417) and want to extend your visa to a 2nd or even a 3rd year, then you would need to do some specified work, often farm work/rural work. All the necessary specifications are here on the government website.

If you are on a Working Holiday Visa (417) or Work and Holiday Visa (462) then you need to complete at least 3 months of specified work in a specific area of Australia to earn a 2nd year visa.

If you are on a Working Holiday Visa (417) or Work and Holiday Visa (462)  then you need to complete at least 6 months of specified work in a specific area of Australia to earn a 3rd year visa.

The specified work differs between 417 and 462 visas. 462 visa holders have the additional sector of tourism and hospitality (in northern Australia only) added to the specified work list.

All the necessary specifications for a 417 visa are here on the government website. They are here for a 462 visa.

We recommend organising this as soon as possible.

The application can be completed through your travel agent, or directly through the same Australian Government website as above.

We always recommend checking Australian Government website for any specific enquiries.

Superannuation is Australia’s pension fund scheme.

Being on a working holiday, you’re entitled to have a superannuation account and your employers have to pay into this account.

If you’re travelling as a tourist for just a few weeks, you don’t need one – a travel card will be great. With cheap rates, tiny fees and a really to use app, we always recommend Wise.

If you’re here for a longer period of time (for example, on a Working Holiday Visa) then it’s highly recommended to open an Australian bank account. It’s an extremely easy process that we will organise for you on our tours. Not only will you save a lot on exchange/transaction fees, but employers will only pay wages into an Australian account. Don’t worry about it now, we’ll help set it up for you in the weeks leading up to your arrival.

Medicare is Australia’s health care scheme, which allows Australians and some overseas visitors to access certain health services at little or no cost. Only a handful of countries are eligible to apply for Medicare in Australia, including:

Belgium, Finland, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, The Republic of Ireland, Slovenia, Sweden and the United KingdomClick HERE to see details for eligibility and details for enrolment, such as what documents you will need to bring to service centres. We will also explain this in more detail when you arrive and point you in the right direction.

This is basically a personal identity number created for you by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). It is required if you want to work in Australia, so that you can be correctly taxed on your income from day one.

You will provide this number to each employer you have while you are in Australia and your tax will be deducted from your wage accordingly, just as it would be in your home country.

Yes, if you tell us who you’re travelling with then we’ll arrange that.

The $99 deposit is required to secure your booking. But don’t worry! Full payment is only required 21 days before your departure date, which gives you time to save money for it!

However, if you make a booking within 21 days of your departure date, you will need to pay the full amount at the time of booking.

Our East Coast Tours are really unique and only run twice per year. You can change your tour dates as per our terms and conditions here, though if none of those dates suit you, then it’s best to cancel and arrange a customised tour with us. Get in touch with us!

The tour starts at Brisbane Airport. When future dates get announced, we will inform you of the best value for money flights.

Driving or getting the bus? No worries, meet us at the airport too. We’ll send the exact pickup details together with your confirmation.

A lot of the food is included on our tour and there are many destinations where you can bring your own drinks.

With this in mind, we’d say $300-$500AUD spending money is realistic, but it also depends on if you want to add on any activities.

You sure can! Your last day is a free day in Cairns which has plenty of activities on offer. We are experts in what to do and have options to add on everything from White Water Rafting to Skydiving! This can be organised during the booking process or with your guide whilst you are on tour.

This is a unique itinerary with limited spots. The maximum group size is 25 people.

There can be a few small changes depending on the tour that you depart on. The video was cut together for the Mid-Semester Tour which goes from Brisbane to Cairns, however the End of Semester goes from Cairns to Brisbane.

In Cairns we will be exploring the Atherton Tablelands, whereas the video shows parts of Cape Tribulation. The Whitsundays experience may change. We will either be sailing and staying on a boat or be travelling on a fast catamaran and staying at a resort.

This tour is for everyone aged 18-39 years old, who wants to explore as much of the East Coast of Australia in a short amount of time.

The itinerary works perfectly for students in Australia wanting to travel in their Mid-Semester break. We also have an option for the students looking to travel at the end of their semester too.

Questions About Make Your Own East Coast Tours

Absolutely not, that’s just one of the options as it’s such an easy way to travel, they’re so cheap and they’re of a good standard. There are other options such as car/camper hire and we can help with that!

They usually last 90 days from the first travel date. This gives most people enough time to travel the coast but if you did want to stop and work somewhere for a few months, you are able to extend passes for an additional fee.

There’s not, it’s all customised to you and your requirements each and every time.

We can! Again, we do this based on what you want. We can speak to you about:

  • Big vs Small Dorms
  • Party Hostels v Quiet Hostels
  • City Centre Hostels
  • Hostels with Pools
  • Beachside hostels
  • Same Sex Dorms
  • Private Rooms
  • Hostels for farmwork

We also have regular hostel partners that we’ve worked with for a very long time, this means we can often save you money on these too.

Definitely, we’re the experts on travelling Australia and our team knows the best spots for everything. Because of our experience we also have contacts in all of these places, meaning we can get you the best deals all year round!

Yes! We know the planning part can be quite difficult and that’s where we come into our own. We love to nerd out on formulating the perfect itinerary that balances your experiences, budget, timings and how busy or relaxed you want your trip to be!

We will work with you to organise a perfect, customised itinerary that we will put on a calendar so you can visualise that. All your bookings will correspond with this calendar telling you where you need to be at what time and on what days. We’ll also let you know what to bring, eg suncream, towel etc.

Again, it’s up to you! We usually organise an activity every 2/3 days. So if you’re in Byron Bay for 5/6 days, we’d probably organise 2 tours and then the rest is time for you to chill. We don’t want to organise every minute of your life, we want you to be free to go on that sunset walk or for that beer with your new hostel roomie!

You sure can! Sometimes people like to have their tours and transport paid for as it helps with budgeting, but they don’t want to commit to a date just yet. That’s easy, that means we give you the ticket, and you can just call us when you know the date you’d like to book. We will advise you (different for each tour) how long before you’d need to book.

Always! We’d note this on the calendar and the tickets. This could be something like a national park fee or a tax to pay when you’re on the Great Barrier Reef. There’s nothing worse than paying out money you didn’t know about so we will always keep you informed.

Definitely! Not only have we booked thousands of people on trips like this, we’re travellers too so we have the best tips for saving money while you’re on your travels.

We can give you advice for every town on the East Coast. Date nights, cheap deals or the best places to party, we have you covered!

The tours, hostels and buses we book will always be full of people of a similar age. We specialise in booking backpacking adventures for people like you, so if we put you on a certain tour, it’s likely to have other people like you that we have booked on too!

We book people campervans every single week, so we have some great contacts for getting you the best deals. We’ll go over the different vans, their insurance options and what will suit you best.

The last thing we want you to do is worry about money. If you have a certain amount of money, we won’t design a trip that spends every single dollar of that, we’ll work out how much everything will cost, roughly how much spending money you’ll need and then consider what you’re doing after and how much money you will need for that.

The $99 deposit is required to secure your booking. But don’t worry! Full payment is only required 21 days before your departure date, which gives you time to save money for it!
